Summerfest 2003 by Earl Bracamonte

The 1st Bikeweek Philippines 2003 is recognized by the DoT as one of the major international events in the celebration of VPY 2003. Sec. Richard Gordon road a Harley Davidson together with the Mad Dogs from the DoT Bldg to Intramuros. Mad Dogs President pledged to support tourism programs.

The Region X exhibit at the clam shell tent in Intramuros was beautifully culminated by a fashion show that showcased different tribal costumes. The exhibit is part of VPY 2003.

Mango-bamboo Fest in P’sinan a big success despite SARS scare by Rachel Barawid

Despite the SARS scare in this province thousands of visitors, including balikbayans and foreign tourists trooped to San Carlos City for the Mango-bamboo Festival last April 3. Highlight of the event was a street dancing and float competition.

Pres GMA declared June 12 which falls on a Thursday a regular working day and June 13, Friday, a special non-working holiday to promote domestic tourism and enable employers to plan their work schedules effectively and efficiently. She also declared Oct. 31 which falls on a Friday a soecial non-working holiday.

14 countries tackle SARS problem in Clark meet

About 100 airport managers and quarantine, customs, immigration, tourism and other airport based officials from 13 Asian countries and Canada are meeting in Clark, Pampanga for a two-day forum to standardize airport control measures against SARS in the ASEAN plus 3 Aviation forum in the Prevention and Containment of SARS is a follow-up to the ASEAN-China summit on SARS held in Bangkok last April 29.

 

 

Boracay toiurists target of drug syndicates

Authorities in Aklan expressed alarm over the entry of drug syndicates in their province and these syndicates are eyeing tourists especially those visiting Boracay Island as their customers.
