Boracay folk pray to shoo away casino

Residents of Boracay held an overnight prayer rally hoping and praying for divine intervention that would prevent the construction of a casino on the island. The barangay councils have passed a resolution opposing the entry of the casino. Gov. Miraflores of Aklan, announced earlier that the casino would not stand during his term

Protest vs. Boracay casino continues

Around 2,000 iresidents of Boracay protested against the construction of a Casino last Saturday. The protesters led by the Holy Rosary Parish, the lone parish on the island and officials from the islands three barangays converged at the public plaza for the prayer rally.

Smoking ban in hotels, bars can hurt tourism by Jen Jorvina

A new law prohibiting smoking in enclosed places such as bars and restaurants and hotels is a boon to a healthy environment but a bane to tourism. NITAS expressed this view and said that there is a need to study the law further.

Ifugao health official fear increase of child prostitution

Ifugao helath officials are alrmed with the increase of young sex workers age 14-16. These minors who work as waitresses are moonlighting as hookers in videoke bars in Banaue an hour drive from lagawe, the province’s capital town. This was reported by the Philippine Information Agency over the case of 7 minor hookers rounded up by authorities and found to be suffering from STD. Provincial social welfare and development office said that the young girls were driven to the sex trade because of poverty.
